What Empowers You?

Today I want to ask, “What empowers you?”, “What makes you feel strong?”, “What gives you confidence?” Let me tell you what empowers me, gives me strength and gives me confidence. My friends and family do all of the above! However, there are other small things I can do throughout my day and life that do those things as well. I told you about how I rode a motorcycle for the first time a while back and that action was empowering. I went through a dark tunnel and found my way back to the light which gave me strength. I started this blog which helped my confidence. The answers to the questions I asked don’t necessarily have to be constants in my life. They can be activities or experiences! Those of you who follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram may have seen I recently got my first tattoo!

I have always wanted a tattoo, but I wanted to wait until I had something really meaningful to permanently ink on my body. I finally came up with an idea and after months of thinking and tweaking the last few details, I finally did it! Let me tell you, I was scared when I walked into that room to get it done. Everyone told me it was going to hurt and said I wouldn’t have the pain tolerance for it. However, just as I always try to do, I proved everyone wrong. Mental health is such a big deal to me and it plays a major part in who I am, which is why my tattoo is directly related to that. I’m telling you about this because getting this tattoo was so empowering for me! It felt good to do something I really wanted to do! It felt good to do something for myself!

Now I’m not saying you should all go out and get a tattoo because that’s a very personal choice. I’m simply saying that I found a way to remind myself that no matter what, I am okay. The two words “I’m okay” are the words I have repeated over and over again in my head while having bad panic attacks. I say those words to myself when things get tough and I don’t think I can deal with them mentally or emotionally. I also have this symbol of beauty to remind myself that I too am beautiful. I know that every time I need a reminder for any of those things this tattoo will forever be there. It will remind me I am strong and confident. It will forever be there to help empower me. So find something that empowers you, whether it be an action, activity, place or a person. One small thing can make a really big difference.
